#NYR hockey is back! Rangers vs. Kings today!

As I sit here waiting for the pregame to start, I can’t hold back my excitement for this upcoming season.  With a summer filled with nervous excitement awaiting the decision of where coveted free agent Brad Richards would play for the rest of his career (Thank god we didn’t have to wait long), to the signing of Mike Rupp, to the many editions of Biron’s journal holding us over for what Ranger fans hope to be a very long season, and of course to what I think will prove to be the best move of the offseason; the naming of Ryan Callahan as the new Rangers captain!

I must say it was very promising to see so many Ranger players show up BEFORE training camp began - From Dylan McIlrath to Brandon Dubinsky and almost every one in between showed the fans of NY that their beloved Rangers were very committed to #winning and were going to be ready for Camp Torturella.

Today’s game against the Los Angeles Kings in King Henrik’s house (No, not MSG, Sweden) is the first step in their journey in what both Ranger players and fans alike hope will take us into June….

Need I also mention that the last two teams to open the season over in Europe (Blackhawks and Bruins) went on to WIN the Stanley Cup that same year.

Let’s go Rangers!!

PS - Is it just me or does Ron Duguay look EXACTLY like Bon Jovi?

First Tumblr post - Rangers waive Avery #notwinning

Well everyone I am knew to Tumblr, and I figured since most of my posts will be about the New York Rangers, why not have my first post be about the news that broke from Europe today that Sean Avery will be waived by the blueshirts…

Safe to say I am not the only person on Broadway sad to see Sean Avery placed on waivers today by the New York Rangers, and hope I get to witness the first time EC makes an errant pass or even better misses a shootout attempt at MSG *Cue We Want Avery chants*.  Moving on, I honestly think the rivalry with the New Jersey Devils has lost some luster.  The games vs NJ just aren’t as fun when Martin Brodeur (Hey Fatso!) can focus on hockey knowing #16 is not lurking in front of his net (See Sean Avery Rule), or the fact that newly annointed captain Kovalchuk will have 1-2 less fighting majors this year with #16 not chirping at him every chance he can get and goading him into a fight, and NJ Devil super pest David Clarkson (imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, right?!?!) will not be chasing around Aves, yapping at him and looking for a fight all night…But don’t worry David I am sure that Prust or Rupper will be more than happy to be your sparring partner!

To commemorate the departure of our beloved #16, I posted up one of my favorite pictures of Sean Avery; During warmups in Boston before a game against the Bruins back in 2007.  What I love about this picture is that the sign in the background that read “God is Avery”.  What makes this picture more special aside from the fact that I took it was that Sean signed it when I met him a few years later.  He loved the picture, and I think the way he signed it was absolutely awesome!

All in all, I am going to miss #16 flying around Madison Square Garden hitting anything in sight to get the crowd rocking, and I am definitely going to miss the “Avery” chants when he really brought the Garden Faithful to there feet after one of his thunderous hits or spirited fights!

You will be missed Sean!

“CAN YOU HEAR US?!?!?!??”
